What is Acarophobia?

A person who has an intense fear of small insects or other bugs, or of the itching that some of them can cause, would be someone who is suffering from acarophobia. This is a very real condition that many people suffer from. A person suffering from this phobia will often exhibit rapid heart rate, anxiety, nervousness, sweating, or even dizziness. There are other symptoms, but these are just a few of the more common ones.

In many cases, the individual might not realize they have the phobia. Depending on how serious the phobia is, the thought that they might have it does not cross their minds and they might even think their fear is normal. Having a fear of something to the point where it causes the symptoms mentioned above, is not normal and should not be something someone goes through every time they encounter a small bug or insect. Bugs and insects are all around us and having such a fear is putting the person under unnecessary stress.
